3 Pests To Watch Out For This Spring

While many homeowners and their families enjoy the spring months as a time to get outside, enjoy the milder temperatures, and get things done around your home, the same can be said for a lot of common household pests that reside in the area. After a long winter nap, most of these pests are looking for a good place to settle down and start producing their spring litters, and unfortunately, many of them consider your home prime real estate. Here at Georgia Wildlife Removal, we understand just how frustrating it can be to root out an unwanted pest infestation, and even more frustrating it can be to have to clean up after them. For this reason, our team of Atlanta wildlife removal professionals have taken the time to put together this short list containing some of the common household pests to be on the lookout for this coming spring, how to locate them, and what to do in order to prevent them from taking up residence in and around your home.

Birds

While most birds are perfectly content to find a tree in which to build their nests, some birds, like barn swallows and sparrows, enjoy using your home’s eaves, ventilation holes, and even outbuildings to make their nests. If you can remove these nests before the birds have laid their eggs, they will most likely pack up and move elsewhere, but if the nest already has eggs or babies, you can gently remove it and relocate it somewhere else, or have a professional wildlife removal expert come out and do so for you. If it seems like this problem is one that keeps occurring, it might be best to cap your eaves to help encourage the birds to go somewhere else.

Squirrels & Raccoons

These larger mammals love to get into your attic or chimneys where they can either set up nesting, or attempt to chew their way down into your basement or crawl spaces. Unfortunately, these particular pests are some of the most destructive once they enter your home, chewing through your housing materials and leaving a serious mess behind once they leave or are removed. Additionally, both of these particular pests can be quite difficult to deter from entering your home, and often require a bit of expert help in order to keep them away permanently. A few things you can do that will help to prevent them from finding entry into your home is to make sure and keep tree branches trimmed back away from your roof, close off any access points you might find outside, keep your gutters clean, and always make sure that you never leave any food outside.

Rats & Mice

Easily two of the most common household pests, and two of the most difficult to deal with. Rats and mice can enter your home through extremely small spaces, where they will then tunnel under your foundations and through your walls and attic where they will eventually have their litters, which only increases the severity of the problem. While traps can help, a professional is often going to be required to help keep this from becoming a recurring problem, especially in older homes where it has already been a long term problem to begin with.
